1 Mins read

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has summoned an emergency meeting at her office to discuss the Supreme Court ruling that stripped members of parliament of powers to increase their salaries and allowances.

According to the Supreme Court ruling of seven judges led by the chief Justice Bart Katureebe, legislators have no powers to increase their emoluments and this should only be done through a bill or a motion initiated by the Executive.

The ruling also ordered all MPs to refund all monies paid to them through an increment of their salaries as the Supreme Court argues that the increment was unconstitutional and unjustified.

Now in a closed door meeting are the Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga who is the chair, the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, the first Deputy Prime Minister General Moses Ali, the leader of opposition in Parliament Betty Aol Ochan plus the all the four back bench commissioners.
