The Kasese District Police Commander, SP Hiwumbire Hassan, has called for calm and heightened vigilance among residents of Bugoye Sub-County following an overnight attack on the local police station that left one suspected attacker dead.
Hiwumbire addressed residents on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following the foiled attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police Station, urging the community to remain peaceful while cooperating with security agencies.
Police said the attack occurred at about 2:00am, when a group of about six people reportedly targeted the police station and attempted to take a firearm from the officer on duty. The officer resisted, and one of the attackers was shot before later being found dead some distance from the station.
Four suspects—Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi—have been arrested in connection with the incident, while police continue efforts to trace other suspects who fled.
The identity of the deceased suspect has not yet been established. Police said a postmortem examination would be conducted as investigations continue.
Addressing residents after the incident, SP Hiwumbire urged them not to panic, but instead to remain alert and promptly share information about suspicious or criminal activities with the Police.
He also encouraged residents to keep the contact details of their local police officers so they can quickly share information and receive timely assistance whenever security concerns arise.
The latest appeal comes as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and working to identify and trace the suspects who remain at large.
Police have asked residents with information that could assist the investigation to report it to the nearest police station.
The Uganda Police Force has said it remains alert following the incident and is continuing efforts to protect police facilities and maintain security in the area.
