Shock and horror have engulfed the upscale Kampala suburb of Ggaba following a brutal and deeply disturbing attack at Ganna Early Childhood Daycare Centre, where an unidentified man allegedly killed more than four toddlers in a violent rampage.
According to residents, the suspect infiltrated the daycare—home to children aged between two and three—by posing as a parent, exploiting the facility’s trust and security gaps. What followed has left the community traumatized.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the man initially walked into the school offices and briefly interacted with the administrator, raising no immediate suspicion.
Moments later, he stepped outside, locked the main gate, effectively trapping those inside, and turned on the children in an act of shocking brutality using a sharp object.
Panic erupted as teachers discovered what was happening and raised the alarm. Their screams drew attention from nearby residents and security personnel, forcing the suspect to abandon his attempt to flee.
He was eventually overpowered and apprehended by a security guard from the nearby Fabba Community.
Within minutes, a furious crowd descended on the scene, baying for the suspect’s blood. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, with residents attempting to lynch him on the spot.
Police officers intervened just in time, rescuing the suspect and whisking him away in a police pickup truck.
The chaos escalated further as security forces, including police and army personnel, fired warning shots into the air to disperse the increasingly volatile crowd.
Local leaders have condemned the attack in the strongest terms. Area chairperson Ben Kakooza described the incident as “unthinkable” and called for urgent action to ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, who rushed to the scene, appealed to the public to cooperate with investigators.
“We call upon anyone with information about the suspect to come forward and assist police with investigations,” he said.
As investigations get underway, the tragedy has left families shattered and a community grappling with grief, fear, and unanswered questions about how such a horrifying breach of safety could occur in a place meant to protect the most vulnerable.
