President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged government support to initiatives linked to Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, including backing his family foundation’s Kamagwa Hospital and the establishment of a museum to preserve his legacy.
In a message shared on his official X account on Tuesday, Mr Museveni said he was pleased to meet the 99-year-old prelate and commended him for his “contribution to faith and social transformation in Uganda.”
According to the President, the government will extend support to Kamagwa Hospital, which will remain a private facility under the cardinal’s family foundation. He also directed the Ministry of Tourism to support plans to set up a museum dedicated to preserving Cardinal Wamala’s legacy.
“At his request, I accepted to serve as Patron of the project,” Mr Museveni said, signalling his personal endorsement of the initiative.
The President wished the retired Archbishop good health and God’s blessings as he marks 99 years, in a meeting that underscores the long-standing relationship between the state and religious institutions in Uganda.
