The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration between gaming regulation and football governance. The engagement centers on aligning regulatory oversight with sports administration to address emerging risks linked to betting activities around football.

Officials noted that while sports betting has become a significant part of fan engagement, it also presents challenges that require coordinated action. Key concerns highlighted include underage betting, the proliferation of illegal betting operations, and potential threats to the integrity of football competitions, such as match manipulation and undue influence on players and officials.

Through this partnership, NLGRB and FUFA are seeking to clearly define shared responsibilities and establish practical mechanisms for prevention, information sharing, and enforcement. The approach emphasizes early intervention, public awareness, and joint monitoring to ensure football remains fair, transparent, and protected from illicit activities.

The discussions also underscored the importance of responsible gaming, particularly as betting platforms become more accessible through digital and mobile technologies. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to protecting young people, educating stakeholders, and enforcing existing laws and regulations governing gaming activities in Uganda.

NLGRB reiterated that effective regulation, supported by public cooperation and strong institutional partnerships, is essential in eliminating illegal betting and promoting a safe gaming environment. FUFA, on its part, emphasized its mandate to preserve the integrity of football and ensure that the sport continues to inspire confidence among fans, players, and sponsors.

The engagement marks a step forward in coordinated efforts to balance the growth of sports betting with the need to protect the game, its participants, and the wider public interest.
