In a major step toward accelerating clean energy adoption, Wekeza Energy has unveiled Sifuna Africa, its flagship renewable energy marketplace platform, now accessible via web and on Google Play, as the iOS App is being finalized. The move aims to connect vendors of solar, clean cooking, and energy-efficient technologies directly with buyers across Africa.
A Seamless Marketplace for Clean Energy
The Sifuna web app (web.sifuna.africa) offers users a streamlined browsing experience through curated clean energy products — from solar panels, batteries, and LED lighting to LPG systems, efficient cookstoves, and biomass briquettes.
Users can filter by vendor ratings, product category, and location, with added logistics features like delivery or installation scheduling built in. The “Become a Seller” functionality allows verified vendors to onboard and tap into a continent-wide network.
Simultaneously, the Sifuna Android app has also gone live on Google Play. The app mirrors the portal’s features, enabling users to shop on mobile, receive updates, and manage orders on-the-go.
According to the app’s store listing, the platform’s mission is to “accelerate Africa’s transition to clean energy by connecting buyers and sellers of renewable products.”
Why Sifuna Africa Matters
Africa continues to face an energy divide where many rural and peri-urban communities rely on charcoal, firewood, or inefficient fuels. Meanwhile, viable clean energy technologies exist — but the challenge has often been connecting supply chains, ensuring quality, and making distribution efficient.
Sifuna comes in as an aggregator and enabler:
- Market access for vendors: Smaller suppliers now gain access to broader markets without having to build their own logistics or e-commerce stack.
- Assurance for buyers: Verified vendor listing, ratings, and delivery/install support reduce risk and information asymmetry.
- Logistics & fulfillment support: The platform integrates delivery or installation scheduling, making adoption easier.
- Scalability & adoption: A pan-African digital marketplace can drive volume, bring down costs, and standardize quality.
For Wekeza Energy itself, primarily an energy services and infrastructure firm, Sifuna represents a vertical expansion into retail and distribution, anchoring the upstream and downstream value chain.
Sifuna Africa is set to become a cornerstone in Africa’s energy transition, not just a marketplace, but an ecosystem that empowers entrepreneurs, accelerates clean energy adoption, and drives sustainable growth.
