At least seven people were injured on Monday, September 29, following a traffic accident involving vehicles and motorcycles linked to National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu also known as Bobi Wine, along the Kalagi–Kayunga Road near Namyoya Village.
Police reports indicate the crash began when a speeding motorcycle in the convoy rear-ended a vehicle, setting off a chain reaction that resulted in several other motorcycles crashing. A white Mitsubishi vehicle (UAZ 064H), featuring campaign posters of the candidate, was also involved.
The injured were taken to St. Francis Hospital Naggalama, with some transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for advanced care. Those with minor injuries reportedly left the scene with their motorcycles.
Identified victims include:
- Kewanza Bashir (27): Maxillary fracture and multiple injuries
- Kakaire Bashir (35): Multiple wounds
- Ssepereza Musa (40): Right leg fracture and other injuries
- Mutagubya Robert (24): Multiple injuries and fractures
- Kisomba Michael (28): Right leg fracture and chest pain
- Ssewaya Eric (23): Admitted at St. Francis Naggalama Hospital
The involved vehicles, including motorcycles with registration numbers UFQ 569H, UGH 892B, UEK 351T, and UFQ 250Q, have been impounded at Naggalama Police Station for further inspection.
Preliminary police investigations cite reckless riding and driving as the main cause, with additional reports claiming that campaign posters bearing Kyagulanyi’s image had been placed dangerously in the roadway, potentially obstructing visibility.
Police have issued a stern warning to all political groups to adhere strictly to traffic laws during campaigns, emphasizing that reckless behavior on public roads will face firm enforcement.
