President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially been nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest in the 2026 general elections, setting the stage for another chapter in Uganda’s political journey.
The nomination, held at the Commission’s new premises in Lweza-Lubowa, was followed by a wave of celebrations both online and on the ground. Supporters took to social media to rally around the Head of State’s bid, emphasizing stability, peace, and continuity.
Running under the theme “Protecting the Gains,” Museveni’s campaign is highlighting achievements made under his leadership, including infrastructure growth, peace, and social transformation.
“Ugandans have witnessed progress that must be safeguarded. This election is about ensuring we don’t lose what has been built,” President Museveni said after his nomination.
In his nomination speech, the President once again thanked the NRM cadres for choosing him to be the party’s flag bearer in the 2026 General Elections. “NRM people need to see that all people are now involved for the next term of office. The involvement in money economy, free education for all, good roads, health, safe water, getting rid of corruption and exposure of crime & impurity,” he added.
Social media platforms were awash with messages of solidarity. Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, invited citizens to join the celebration of Museveni’s nomination, saying the moment was “a reaffirmation of Uganda’s unity and shared purpose.”
The nomination day is set to culminate in a star-studded celebration at Kololo Independence Grounds, featuring some of Uganda’s biggest entertainers, including Jose Chameleone, Eddy Kenzo, Bebe Cool, Gravity Omutujju, and Ray G. The lineup reflects Uganda’s cultural diversity, with performers drawn from all regions of the country, symbolizing inclusiveness, one of the hallmarks the campaign seeks to project.
With the nomination now complete, Museveni officially kicks off his campaign journey ahead of the 2026 elections. For many of his supporters, the moment is not just about a candidacy, but a call to secure Uganda’s future.
