The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has praised the effectiveness of the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) in combating vehicle-related crimes following the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Mukono District.

According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, a Toyota Fielder with digital number plate #UA812AW was stolen on May 26, 2025, from Buloba, along Mityana Road in Kampala. The theft was immediately reported at the Central Police Station (CPS) by the vehicle owner.

“Acting swiftly, the officer who received the complaint alerted the ITMS unit. Through real-time tracking, the system successfully located the stolen vehicle near Ntawo in Mukono,” Kananura said. The vehicle was recovered using live geographic data, pinpointed at latitude 0.392533 and longitude 32.736718.

Kananura emphasized that ITMS is not only vital for road safety but also instrumental in strengthening public security and deterring vehicle theft.

He commended the coordination between the public, Uganda Police Force, and the ITMS team, which enabled the timely recovery of the stolen car. “We urge the public to report such incidents promptly to the nearest police station to facilitate immediate tracking and recovery,” he added.

The ITMS is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to integrate technology in policing, particularly in traffic management and vehicle crime prevention.
