Edith Nakalema Champions Digital Tools for Investor Protection

1 Mins read

Edith Nakalema, Senior Presidential Advisor on Anti-Corruption and Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit, has emphasized the role of digital innovation in boosting investor confidence and transparency in Uganda’s tourism sector.

Speaking at the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) in Kampala, Nakalema introduced the Electronic Investors’ Protection Portal (EIPP) as a vital tool for enhancing investor experience and combating corruption.

“The EIPP allows investors to conduct due diligence digitally, minimizing human interaction with government agencies,” she said. “This streamlines processes, enhances transparency, and ensures a secure and efficient investment environment.”

The three-day annual event brought together tour operators, travel agents, hospitality stakeholders, and global investors, positioning Uganda as a key destination for tourism investment and cultural exploration under the banner “The Pearl of Africa.”

Nakalema’s remarks come amid growing government efforts to create a corruption-free and business-friendly environment, particularly in sectors like tourism, where foreign investment is critical.

Doreen Katusiime, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, highlighted Uganda’s tourism potential and recent milestones in sector development.

“We are committed to strengthening regional tourism collaboration and exploring new investment opportunities,” she said. “Partnerships like those within the East African Community (EAC) are crucial for boosting Uganda’s appeal as a global destination.”

Tourism entrepreneur Amos Wekesa, a long-standing advocate for Uganda’s travel industry, echoed the significance of POATE as a platform for sustainable tourism growth.

“This expo is a strategic gateway for showcasing Uganda’s biodiversity, cultural heritage, and investment opportunities,” said Wekesa. “It connects local businesses with international partners and drives long-term sector development.”

Wekesa’s participation, alongside other key players, underscored the expo’s role in forging meaningful collaborations to elevate Uganda’s tourism profile globally.

The POATE 2025 concluded with renewed commitments to digital transformation, regional integration, and sustainable tourism investments, reinforcing Uganda’s ambition to become a leading destination in Africa.
