Electoral Commission Concludes National Voters Register Display, Begins Natural Justice Period

1 Mins read

The Electoral Commission has officially concluded the national exercise for the Display of the National Voters Register (NVR), marking a key milestone in preparations for the 2025/2026 General Elections.

The display exercise, which began on 25th April 2025, ended on 15th May 2025 in most polling stations across the country. However, in 620 polling stations where the exercise started late due to technical issues, the display will continue until 20th May 2025 to allow for the full statutory 21-day period.

Additionally, the special interest groups’ registers—covering Youths, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Older Persons—were also displayed at village level from 25th April to 8th May 2025. The Commission emphasized there would be no extension of any display periods.

The objective of the display was to ensure the accuracy of the Voters Register by allowing citizens to confirm their details and raise objections where necessary. Citizens were encouraged to report ineligible voters, including the deceased, underage individuals, those registered in the wrong parish, or duplicates.

Following the conclusion of this exercise, the Commission has commenced a ten-day period, from 16th to 26th May 2025, for the display of lists of individuals recommended for removal or inclusion on the Register. These lists will be available for public viewing at Parish/Ward Headquarters.

This period allows affected individuals to raise objections before the Parish/Ward Tribunal, a body appointed by the area magistrate, comprising elders and representatives nominated in consultation with political parties.

After the Tribunal concludes its deliberations, the Electoral Commission will consolidate all data and recommendations to finalize the National Voters Register. This final version will be used in the upcoming elections, beginning with the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Committees elections scheduled for June 2025.

The Commission urged all stakeholders to remain engaged and participate in electoral activities as outlined in the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap. Registered voters can still verify their details via the Commission’s website: https://ec.or.ug/register.

Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, expressed appreciation for the support received from various stakeholders and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to a transparent electoral process.
