1 Mins read

The Electoral Commission has announced adjustments to the timeline for the display of the National Voters’ Register and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Registers, a key step in preparations for Uganda’s 2025/2026 General Elections.

New Dates for National Voters’ Register Display

Originally scheduled from April 17 to May 8, 2025, the display of the National Voters’ Register will now run from April 25 to May 15, 2025. This change aims to allow more time for preparation and effective participation.

Revised Schedule for Special Interest Groups

The display period for the Voters Registers of Special Interest Groups—namely Youths, Persons with Disabilities, and Older Persons—has also been rescheduled. Initially set for April 17–28, 2025, it will now take place from April 25 to May 8, 2025.

Parish Tribunal Recommendations Timeline Adjusted

Recommendations from Parish Tribunals regarding inclusions and deletions on the voters register will now be reviewed and displayed from May 16 to May 26, 2025, in accordance with Section 26(2) of the Electoral Commission Act.

Legal Framework and Electoral Roadmap

These adjustments align with the Electoral Commission’s legal mandate under Article 61(1)(e) of the 1995 Constitution and Sections 18, 20, and 26 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176). They also reflect the Commission’s ongoing commitment to a transparent and inclusive electoral process.

Call for Public Participation

The Electoral Commission is calling on voters, political parties, and stakeholders to actively engage in the display exercises. Participation will ensure that the register is accurate and that all eligible voters are accounted for ahead of the 2025/2026 General Elections.
