
Kampala, February 17, 2025 – Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, has paid tribute to the late former Namibian President, His Excellency Sam Nujoma, highlighting his enduring legacy as a statesman and champion of African liberation.
On February 14, Hon. Odongo visited the Honorary Consul of Namibia in Uganda, where he signed the condolence book in remembrance of President Nujoma. He was received by Honorary Consul Godfrey Kirumira, who, on behalf of the Namibian government, welcomed the minister and acknowledged the significance of the tribute.
Reflecting on Nujoma’s leadership, Hon. Odongo described him as a trailblazer whose dedication to Namibia’s independence and development shaped the country’s trajectory. He emphasized that Nujoma’s contributions extended beyond Namibia, inspiring many African nations, including Uganda.
“The late President Nujoma was a father, a brother, and a mentor to many across the continent. His fight for freedom and unwavering vision will continue to guide generations to come,” Hon. Odongo remarked.
He also noted the strong diplomatic ties between Uganda and Namibia, underscoring both nations’ commitment to advancing African interests on the global stage. The two countries are among the ten selected to review United Nations systems, a testament to their leadership and dedication to continental progress.
While acknowledging the profound loss felt across Africa, Hon. Odongo expressed confidence that President Nujoma’s legacy would endure, inspiring continued efforts toward unity, justice, and development.
