Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, officially embraced Joan Asiimwe into the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party on Tuesday.
Asiimwe, a former member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party, cited a loss of trust in the party’s ideologies as her reason for joining NRM.
Accompanying Asiimwe was Buyaga West constituency MP, Hon. Barnabas Tinkasimire, along with other local leaders from Kitagwenda and Kamwenge districts.
During the event held at the party offices on Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Nakasero Kampala, Todwong presented Asiimwe with the NRM constitution, manifesto, and branded shirts, formally welcoming her to the ruling party.
He urged her to familiarize herself with the party’s core principles and encouraged active participation in its activities.
Todwong emphasized the NRM’s focus on addressing issues affecting the masses and avoiding divisive politics.
In her remarks, Asiimwe expressed her belief in the NRM’s principles, values, and vision for both the young and old generations, stating her readiness to contribute meaningfully to the country’s political landscape.
She highlighted a lack of direction and purpose in the FDC as her reason for departing from the party.
