Speaker Among Begs Buyende People To Retain Magogo Ahead Of 2026 Elections

2 Mins read

In a bid to consolidate the political gains of her husband, Moses Hassim Magogo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among on Saturday met a cross-section of leaders in Budiope East.

The meeting took place at her residence in Buyende, Nalina zone. Earlier in the day, Among had updated her particulars in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) yellow book in Bukedea.

The guests who graced the occasion included; Paul Bamwite (Nalina zone LC I chairperson), Peter ‘Panadol’ Mugema (Iganga municipality MP, Ind.), Haji Idi Isabirye (Bunya south MP, NRM) and Amos Kankunda (Rwampara MP, NRM).

Addressing residents on Saturday, Among said in Uganda’s political landscape, where politicians look to enrich themselves, Magogo is their best bet. “Whoever comes and says they want to be an MP, you ask that person, ‘with all the work Magogo has done, what are you coming to do?’ Because that person is going to come to you to look for money. First, rent a house in Kampala, buy a car, look for a wife, then the money will come to the constituency,” she said.

As such, Among beseeched all and sundry to stick with Magogo, already established in the aforementioned areas.

At the same function, she aimed shots at citizens who have been trolling her for being opulent. “When you put up a small house like this one, they say they are proud, they have money. Don’t you want to develop? When we came, they said when you give them votes, they will go away. Have we gone away? I have even given you balongo (twins), so we are not going anywhere,” the Speaker said.

Among and the institution she leads have come under attack on social media. This follows revelations that were unearthed in the course of X (formerly twitter) online hashtag called Uganda Parliamentary Exhibition.

The majority of these allegations border on abuse of travel allowances, corruption and chauvinism.

Political Dynamics

At the function, Among confessed that Magogo’s predecessor, Godfrey Dhamuzungu, was a juggernaut; they did not have resources to uproot a man of Dhamuzungu’s stature.

“The most difficult person to remove was Dhamuzungu, but when we removed him. The Bible is clear; you do not pay an eye for an eye. We came here with clean hands. We did not come to fight. For us, we are protected by the blood of Jesus Christ. And I want to tell you, Magogo is still going to be an MP,” Among said.

Political Strength

Among and Magogo’s political strength lies in several economic and philanthropic projects they pioneered after the last general elections.

On August 21, 2022, Among donated sh5om towards constructing a maternity ward at Maliya Foundation Health Centre.

The entity is situated in lgwaya trading centre. The same day, she also extended sh3om towards the construction of a girl’s dormitory at Kagulu Church of Uganda Primary School.

“This is a government school, but our work is to complement what the Government does. As I said before that, we shall see them by their deeds; this road from Kamuli to Nabirumba to Kaliro is going to be tarmacked,” Among said at the time.

Since then, Among says all schools have been equipped with solar electricity, something she says has improved academic grades.

During her Saturday visit, she promised to construct a borehole to supply Nalina residents with clean water and handed a victorious local football team sh2m cash. On top of that, Among has promised to provide all villages in the area with tents and scholarships.
