“I will not bring shame upon the party as Mpuuga did,” declares Zaake

The Member of Parliament for Mityana Municipality, Francis Zaake, has expressed profound gratitude to his party, particularly the National Executive Committee (NEC), for endorsing his nomination as a parliamentary commissioner.

Zaake also acknowledged the nomination from the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, as a significant honor.

In a statement, Zaake conveyed his commitment to serving in his new role with unwavering dedication, pledging to uphold the values of integrity and accountability synonymous with his party.

He assured constituents and party members alike that he would strive to make a positive impact while representing their interests in the parliamentary commission.

As Zaake assumes his new role, he echoes the sentiments of his party leader in advocating for positive change and representation grounded in integrity. Together with his colleagues in the parliamentary commission, Zaake aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Ugandans by promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Last week,The National Unity Platform’s decision-making body ruled to remove Mathias Mpuuga, the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe, from his position on the parliamentary commission.

This action follows findings by the NUP’s National Executive Committee, which determined Mpuuga’s involvement in corruption and abuse of office. Allegedly, Mpuuga and NRM parliamentary commissioners received 1.7 billion shillings in the form of service awards.

Zaake, known for his independent stance, had previously been removed as a commissioner but was reinstated by the court. However, this decision is currently under appeal by the Auditor General.

The NUP’s decision to remove Mpuuga came after issuing a 10-day ultimatum for him to justify his position as a commissioner.

Acting President Dr. Lina Zedriga conveyed this decision in a letter dated March 5, 2024, following deliberations during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee on March 4, 2024.
