The Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Jeje Abubakher Odongo, has expressed gratitude to Ambassador Monzer Selim and the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt for their unwavering support and partnership.
This was as Odongo held a productive meeting with H.E Monzer Selim, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uganda, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and address important issues related to the Nile Basin Initiative.
During the meeting, both dignitaries expressed warm greetings and emphasised the longstanding and fraternal relations between Uganda and Egypt.
Ambassador Selim congratulated Uganda on successfully hosting three significant summits, namely the IGAD, Non aligned Movement (NAM) and G77, held consecutively in January 2024.
This achievement showcased Uganda’s dedication to regional and international cooperation, highlighting its role as a stable and progressive nation in Africa.
The officials discussed the need to deepen and expand collaboration in various fields of common interest.
They particularly underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation within the framework of the Nile Basin Initiative, focusing on water resource management and utilization.
Recognising the significance of sustainable water management for socio-economic development, both parties emphasized the necessity of joint efforts to advance projects and initiatives in this critical area.
The discussions reinforced the shared commitment of Uganda and Egypt to foster closer ties and enhance cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to building upon the existing foundation of friendship and cooperation to achieve tangible progress and prosperity.
The ministry looks forward to continued collaboration, expecting fruitful outcomes that will further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Uganda and Egypt.
