Following an accident on Sunday evening along the Kisoro-Kabale road in the Rubanda district, 35 travellers are receiving critical care.

The tragedy happened at Kamusegwa village in Nyarurambi ward, Rubanda town council, around 05:10 PM.

An Isuzu Lorry with registration number UAN 100Z that was transporting an unknown number of mourners from Mubwindi in Muko sub-county, Rubanda district, to Kabale was involved in an accident when it swerved off the road at a sharp corner and flipped.

Gad Musinguzi, Patrick Ndamirehe, Ronald Twebaze, Monica Tumukunde, Moses Kasitgazi, Benon Muhungire, Bruce Twijukye, Wilber Haturire, John Nshanabagabo, Apophia Tukamushaba, Johan Kyarimpa, James Kasoli, Ronald Ninsimiraho, Ketty Ahimbisibwe, Prudence Atwebembere, Evans Orishaba, Patience Natukunda, Medius Twonobusinye, and Tanazio Karimasi are among those who are counted among the causalities.

The others are Evelyne Kiconco, Brenda Niwamanya, Enid Kyokushaba, Prophet Akankunda, Oxvervier Komuhangi, Anifer Tusingwire, Betty Ainembabazi, Sonia Kesande, Kenneth Akankwasa, Milton Tibamuhanga, Prudence Akampurira, Teopista Kariyo, Hope Busingye, Gift Kehoda, and Evelyne Kiconco are the others.

Bruce Twijukye and Prudence Akampurira claim that they had advised the unnamed driver not to speed, particularly in light of the road’s many abrupt turns.

They think the driver’s unwillingness to follow their instructions to avoid speeding may have contributed to the accident.

According to Elly Maate, a spokesman for the Kigezi region police, the victims were brought to Muko Health Center IV for medical attention.

He disclosed that the situation is still being looked into. Maate stated that following the collision, the driver—whose name is now unknown—left the site.

The vehicle’s wreckage has been hauled to the Rubanda police station for examination, and the case has been filed there under file number TAR 08/2024.
