Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday hosted the former President of Ethiopia, His Excellency Dr. Mulatu Teshome, at State House Entebbe. The meeting, held on November 1st, marked a significant step in strengthening the relations between the two East African nations.
Dr. Mulatu Teshome, who also serves as the Special Envoy of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, His Excellency Abiy Ahmed, arrived in Uganda to convey a special message from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to President Museveni. The details of the message were not disclosed to the public, but it is believed to address matters of regional importance and cooperation.
The meeting between President Museveni and Dr. Mulatu was characterized by warmth and an exchange of ideas. Discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including trade, security, and development. Both leaders expressed their commitment to fostering stronger ties and collaboration to benefit the people of their respective countries.
Wednesday’s meeting was also attended by Uganda Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, the ambassador of Ethiopia to Uganda H.E Etsegenet Yimenu Bezabih and embassy officials among others.
President Museveni, noted the importance of engaging with Ethiopia, one of the most influential nations in the Horn of Africa, in the pursuit of regional stability and prosperity. Ethiopia and Uganda share common interests, and this meeting provided a platform to align their goals and strategies.
Dr. Mulatu Teshome, on behalf of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, emphasized the significance of maintaining a strong partnership with Uganda and East African countries.
After the official meeting, Dr. Mulatu Teshome was hosted to a sumptuous dinner at the residence of the Ethiopian ambassador to Uganda, Her Excellency Etsegenet Yimenu Bezabih. The dinner was a vibrant celebration of the enduring friendship between Ethiopia and Uganda. Here he met with a group of Ethiopians staying in Uganda.
Ethiopia and Uganda share a history of solidarity and cooperation within the African Union and other international platforms.
