In a heartfelt message to Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and the people of Uganda, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended warm wishes on the occasion of Uganda’s 61st Independence Day anniversary.

Uganda gained her independence from Britain on 9th October 1962.

President Putin’s message, posted on X (former Twitter) by the Russian Embassy in Uganda, not only celebrated the historic milestone but also emphasized the strong and growing ties between Uganda and Russia, particularly highlighted by President Museveni’s attendance at the Russia-Africa summit.

On this significant day in Uganda’s history, President Putin conveyed his congratulations and best wishes, stating, “Russian-Uganda relations have been traditionally friendly. This was fully confirmed by our joint work during the recent Russia – Africa Summit in St Petersburg.”

President Putin’s message continued, “I am confident that we will continue to systematically increase constructive bilateral cooperation in various areas to the benefit of our peoples and in the interest of strengthening security and stability on the African continent .”

The Russia-Africa summit, held in July, was a landmark event that brought together leaders from across the African continent and Russia to explore opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit. President Museveni’s presence at the summit underscored Uganda’s commitment to fostering partnerships with Russia and other nations to advance its development goals.

During the summit, discussions focused on a wide range of topics, including economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and regional stability. The event provided a platform for leaders to engage in fruitful dialogues aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between African countries and Russia.

The warm and cordial message from President Putin highlights the significance of the 61st Independence Day anniversary for Uganda and the growing collaboration between the two nations. It serves as a reminder of the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors and paves the way for a brighter future in the Uganda-Russia relationship.
