Byekwaso Named Uganda Cranes Interim Coach

1 Mins read

The former KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso has been named the temporary head coach of the Uganda Cranes for a one-month period by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

On their website, FUFA said that this decision had been made: “FUFA has named a Technical Team of four people for an interim period of one month running from 3rd – 31st October 2023.”

Morley Byekwaso, interim head coach, Fred Muhumuza, interim assistant coach, interim goalkeeping coach, and interim fitness coach Felix Ayobo make up the interim technical team.

“During this month’s international break, the four will be in command of the Uganda Cranes. The team will play two matches against Mali in Bamako on October 13 and Zambia in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on October 17, 2023.

Today, the temporary technical team will also name the Uganda Cranes lineup for the two international matches. go to the next section of FUFA’s statement.

Morley Byekwaso is well-known for having led the Uganda Hippos, the Under-20 National team, to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final in 2021, when they faced Ghana and came in second. Prior to that, he was the deputy head coach of SC Villa, a SC Villa squad in the Uganda Premier League.

This appointment comes after Milutin Sredojevic was fired as the Uganda Cranes’ head coach recently due to a poor Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign in which Uganda placed third with seven points.

The head coach, assistant coach, goalkeeping trainer, and strength and conditioning coach of the Uganda Cranes were all dismissed by FUFA.

Coaches with previous expertise in these roles were urged to apply, and both Ugandan and non-Ugandan candidates were welcome to apply.

A considerable number of candidates, the bulk of whom were from outside Uganda, were reported for these posts, according to FUFA’s Communications Director Hussein, who spoke with Uganda Radio Network a fortnight ago.

There were 24 applications for the Strength and Conditioning job, 34 for the Assistant Head Coach post, 245 for the Head Coach position, and 7 for the Goalkeeping Coach position.
