Police in Busoga East are stuck with the lifeless body of an unidentified 21-year-old woman. She was allegedly killed and abandoned in a room at M and Dent Guest House, situated in Wabulungu A cell, Magamaga town council on September 13, 2023.
It is alleged that an unidentified man had hired a room at the lodging facility and was later joined by a woman.
However, the man fled the room around 8:00 PM. His sudden departure raised suspicion among the lodge operators. Around 8:30 PM, they entered the room only to discover the lifeless body of the young woman in a pool of blood.
The operators promptly informed local leaders, who then alerted the police. Speaking anonymously, one of the lodge operators disclosed that the suspect had left the room with all the victim’s belongings in a laptop bag.
“We were guided by the detectives to search the room, only to realize that, the suspect fled off with all the victim’s belongings, including her clothing and phone,” said the source.
The deceased was transported to Mayuge Health Center IV mortuary, where preliminary investigations suggest strangulation marks, raising suspicions that the suspect killed her before cutting her throat.
The report also indicates that the suspect had inserted pieces of clothing into the woman’s mouth before to prevent her from making noise and committing the crime, which could have attracted attention from neighboring communities.
Lawrence Nsaadha, a resident in the area, expressed concern about the nature of the crime, which has created tension among community members.
They have been unable to identify both the deceased and the suspect, raising fears of increased insecurity in their rapidly growing town.
Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, stated that they have since detained the lodge owner, Agnes Turyamuhebwa at Mayuge Central Police Station, awaiting further inquiries related to the incident.
Nandawula urged hotel and lodge owners to comply with the presidential directive to register their clients, saying this would significantly aid investigations in cases of sudden death or any other form of criminal activity.
