Uganda’s marathon runner Victor Kiplangat has won gold in the marathon (42km) race at the 2023 World Athletics Championship on-going in Budapest, Hungary.
The 23-year-old and 2023 Commonwealth Gold medalist completed the race on Sunday in a time 2 hours 8 minutes and 53 seconds.
Maru Teferii from Isreal crossed the finishing line in second place with a time of 2:09.5, while Ethiopia’s Leul Gebresilase was third recording a time of 2:09. 57.
Stephen Kissa, another Ugandan athlete secured 5th position with a time of 2:10:22 seconds., while Andrew Rotich dropped out the race after 30 kilometers. Kiplangat expressed his happiness after the race by giving glory back to God.
“This was Gods timing to make me shine at such an incredible Athletics event, so all the Glory is back to him,” said a happy Kiplangat.
Benjamin Njia, vice president technical at Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) says Kiplangat’s performance was spectacular. “We are so happy for winning a second Gold for our country,” said Njia. Few days ago Joshua Cheptegei won gold in the 10,000m race.
