Over 70 supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform on Saturday defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party courtesy of Office of the NRM Chairman (ONC) manager, SPA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye.

This happened in Mityana District, a known stronghold of the NUP party, where the district also added its voice to the growing number of those endorsing President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026 retention of power in a campaign dubbed “TovaKuMain2026.”

The NUP supporters who crossed to the NRM said they did not see any reason to remain in the opposition and that they had seen the light

At the same function, Hajjat Hadijah also gave out an assortment of items including sewing machines, haircut machines and hair dryers to residents to help boost their household income.

In the interactive meeting with residents who filled the Mayors Garden, Hadijah took time off to listen to the issues affecting them.

They raised complaints about the delay in processing money meant for the Parish Development Model, a flagship program aimed at poverty alleviation. She in turn promised to forward their issues to the President.
