Uganda police have released a picture of a woman who stole a church car at the funeral of a famous businessman Apollo Nyegamehe alias Aponye.

The vehicle Registration Number UAT 478N belongs to Kikungiri Archdeaconry, under the Kigezi diocese.

The lady was later intercepted at a roadblock in Rwampara at around 10 pm after Police intensified the search of the stolen car.

The vehicle had transported clergy members led by Venerable Canon Amos Tweteise, the Kikungiri archdeacon.

Rev. Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Kigezi Diocesan Secretary, confirmed the theft, expressing the diocese’s frustration in tracing the missing vehicle.

Nkurunungi condemned the heartless act, questioning how such a solemn burial, where many were grieving the loss of Nyegamehe, could also attract individuals with ill intentions.

The body of Apollo Nyegamehe alias Aponye, a prominent Kampala businessman was laid to rest at yesterday his ancestral home in Kitaburaza village, Muhanga town council, Rukiga district.

The casket containing Nyegamehe’s remains was gently lowered into the grave at exactly 04:14 PM Wednesday amidst a sombre mood from his family members, business associates, clergy, and political leaders.

Nyegamehe lost his life in a road crash at Itojo town council, Ntungamo district, along the Mbarara-Kabale highway on July 6, 2023.

The accident occurred around 9:00 PM when his Toyota Land Cruiser V8 registration number UBF 300Z collided with a parked Fuso truck registration number UAZ 767D loaded with Irish potatoes.
