Katikkiro Mayiga Spills Kabaka Health Secrets, Explains Absence From Nnaabagereka Book Launch

1 Mins read

The Buganda Kingdom Premier Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has provided scanty details on the treatment of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The Katikkiro who was addressing a press conference on Monday, said that while the Buganda monarch’s health is a matter of privacy, he is sure about the doctors providing treatment to him.

“I’m not a doctor and I am not the person treating the Kabaka but what I can assure you is that whenever the Kabaka falls sick, he gets treated by the best physicians. Health is an issue to do with privacy and at no time I will be in position to discuss Kabakas’ health,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.

The premier is celebrating 10 years at the helm of Uganda’s most influential monarchy.

Kabaka Mutebi’s health has been a subject of public debate especially on social media sites in the past two years following the emergence of images appearing to show him in worrying state.

Last year, the Katikkiro was forced to dismiss reports that the son of Kabaka Mutesa was poisoned, saying he got an allergic reaction from wearing masks and face shields.

The Buganda sovereign has been making trips abroad for specialised medical attention.

NNAABAGEREKA BOOK LAUNCH ABSENCE

The Katikkiro also defended himself against reports that he “snubbed” the book launch of Buganda Kingdom’s Nnaabagereka (Queen).

“The Nnaabagereka Queen Sylvia Nagginda Luswata” an autobiography, was launched in March at an event where the Kabaka was also missing.

“It is wrong to assume that I have issues with the Nnabagereka of Buganda. I was absent from her book launch because I was away on leave. For those who read the book will realize that I wrote the forward. I support Maama Nnabagereka and I have always supported her projects including the Kisakaate,” Mayiga revealed.

His 10 years as premier will be celebrated on 12th May 2023.
