Yoweri Museveni, the president, has mandated that Keith Muhakanizi be given a state funeral.
Pascal Kwesiga, a communication advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office, said that President Museveni directed his office to work with Muhakanizi’s family to arrange for his remains to be returned to Uganda from Milan, Italy, where he passed away on Thursday.
“The Prime Minister informed the President about Muhakanizi’s passing, and the President gave her instructions to coordinate efforts to bring his remains back for burial.
According to Kwesiga, the President also ordered that Muhakanizi get an official funeral.
Muhakanizi was transferred from the Ministry of Finance, where he had worked in a variety of positions for more than 20 years, including Permanent Secretary and Secretary to Treasury, to the Permanent Secretary Office of the Prime Minister.
According to reports, Muhakanizi died as a result of complications from cancer.
