President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that his votes in the capital Kampala were rigged in the last presidential elections.
Museveni who is also the National Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, made the revelation on Wednesday afternoon.
It was during a meeting with Kampala NRM Villages chairpersons at Kololo Independence Grounds.
“I had heard about the rigging of elections in Kampala…i heard about it, that even my votes were changed. But that came from the…i think the office of the National Chairman was supposed to appoint some agents,” President Museveni.
In the 2021 General elections, the ruling NRM lost to the opposition’s National Unity Platform (NUP) party. The ONC then, was led by Milly Babalanda.
“…the Office of the National Chairman was supposed to get agents per village to fight those wars but i dont know what happened,” the President added.
President Museveni then called the current head of the ONC Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye to tell the participants what could have gone wrong.
Hadijah who was accompanied with cheers as she made her way to the podium, said the people selected to carry out vote protection were not paid for their services.
“When we tried to get reports from the then coordinators and teams selected to conduct vote protection, we were told that the causes of the loss were because of lack of payment. I got many evidenced complaints from many of the coordinators. Even in areas where we would have performed better, it was the same story,” Hadijah said as the chairpersons erupted in cheers of approval.
