Male Mabirizi Finally Out Of Jail

1 Mins read

After serving an 18-month prison sentence for contempt of court, attorney Male Mabirizi has been freed from Luzira Upper.

According to Frank Baine, the spokesperson for Uganda Prison Services, Mabirizi was released on Saturday morning after serving his entire term.

According to him, Mabirizi’s sentence is one of those that is eligible for remission.

“After one month in jail, the punishment is reduced by one-third. Due to the sentence’s requirement, he must have served a year in prison “Baine said.

On February 15, 2022, High Court Civil Division Judge Musa Ssekaana found Mabirizi guilty of contempt of court.

This came about after the Attorney General told Justice Ssekaana that Mabirizi had posted comments on social media accusing him (Ssekaana) of being prejudiced, inept, and unqualified to preside over the smallest court of a family, as well as for a Grade Two Magistrate.

The Attorney General also told the court that the remaining posts were written in abhorrent language and that Mabirizi had declared null and unlawful a fine of 300 million shillings that had previously been imposed on him for contempt of court, according to the government.

A warrant of arrest was subsequently issued, and security was instructed to detain Mabirizi immediately so that he could be brought to prison to complete his sentence.

On February 22nd, 2022, he was subsequently detained and taken to Kitalya prison before being moved to Luzira prison, from which he has since been released.

Mabirizi has applied for temporary freedom on numerous occasions since his arrest, but to no avail.

Mabirizi expressed his happiness at becoming released in a phone conversation with Uganda Radio Network on Saturday.

He sounded ecstatic and cheerful. He said that he filed a total of 110 lawsuits against the Ugandan government while he was incarcerated and that he will continue to fight for the rule of law in this nation.
