Older Persons Mark Their Day With Merry In Nebbi

1 Mins read

The phrase “good old days” was relived on Saturday as the country congregated at Nebbi Town Secondary School in Nebbi Municipality for the national celebrations of this year’s International Day of Older Persons.

The host grounds were animated as the golden tunes including ‘Sina Makosa by Les Wanyika’ blared from the public address system.

The nostalgic feel was evident as even those that hold support in their walking sticks spared no energy to dance away to the memorable songs.

During the event presided over by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni represented by the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development two key documents were launched.

These included the National Guidelines on Healthy Ageing and Guidelines for the Special Enterprise Grant for Older Persons.

Up to 30 older persons identified within Nebbi district, the oldest being a 102-year-old, were rewarded with beddings (blankets and mattresses).

The celebrations were organized by the Department of Elderly and Disability Affairs of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in collaboration with Civil Society and Development Partners who support programmes on ageing.
