Museveni, Besigye Lock Horns in Soroti Ahead Of By-Election

1 Mins read

President Museveni and the opposition strong man Dr Kizza Besigye have camped in Soroti for the final campaigns ahead of Soroti East Member of Parliament (MP) by-election.

The polls will be conducted on July, 28 to fill the vacant left after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Forum for Democratic Change’s Moses Attan.

On Sunday Besigye was intercepted as he head to Soroti but he managed to escape the force to campaign for the FDC candidate.

Museveni will also today boost the Soroti City East campaigns as he canvasses support for the NRM flagbearer, Herbert Edmund Ariko.

This is according to the NRM Vice Chairman for the Eastern Region, Capt. Mike Mukula.

“The Chairman of NRM will tomorrow(today), July 25, which is the second last day for campaigning in Soroti City East, come in for his campaign rallies.” “He will be here to deliver and unpackaged the manifesto not only for Soroti as a city but the country at large”

He stated that Museveni is expected to walk the voters through the expectations of the new leadership of their member of Parliament Ariko

According to the draft program, Museveni will address two scientific meetings, starting with one from Madera ward and ending with one at Moruapesur Primary School playground. Soroti City East has 13 wards with 84 cells and 62 polling stations.

Mukula noted that the party is more than prepared to mobilise the populace to cast their ballots because of the broad and steadfast base of support that it enjoys in the constituency.

He said that the main area of focus has been socio-economic transformation, which will guarantee the success of the Parish Development Model (PDM).

“With this initiative, the government will handle the issue of unemployment and increase the income per household. A number of other packages will also be unveiled tomorrow,” he said.

The NRM ideology made a plea to the opposition to accept the triumph of the NRM after the elections are done.

The Soroti East Constituency Parliamentary seat fell vacant following a court nullification of the election of former Member of Parliament Moses Attan and ordered the electoral commission to conduct a by-election for the Soroti City East seat.
