Among, Kafuuzi Join Race To Replace Oulanyah

1 Mins read

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among and Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi have expressed their interest to parliament’s top job.

Deputy Speaker, Anita Among sent her personal assistant, Mary Athieno, to pick nomination forms for the Speakership on her behalf from the NRM secretariat.

She said that she was feeling unwell to pick the nomination forms by herself.

Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi also picked nomination forms at the NRM secretariat offices to contest.

Others that have shown interest include, Arua Central MP Jackson Atima Buti, Dokolo South County MP, Felix Okot Ogong, Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi and Theodore Ssekikubo, Lwemiyaga County.

While on the opposition ticket, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa and Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda have expressed interest to run for Parliament’s top job.

NRM party will on Thursday sit to pick its flag bearer for the contest that’s slated for Friday.

The Speaker’s seat fell vacant after the Death of Hon Jacob Oulanyah that happened on Sunday at around 10:30am in Seattle, USA.

The President also directed flags to fly at half-mast until the burial of the Speaker is concluded.

It will be a long, painful journey of escorting Oulanyah back to his ancestral roots in Omoro District, where he emerged from obscurity to break the ceilings and transcend the high seas and cross bridges to the very top echelon of society.

A free-spirited leader, Oulanyah created an environment of ease around himself, which enabled staff and Members to interact freely and easily around him, bringing out the best in themselves.
