The Uganda Police have confirmed the arrest of three assailants who were involved in the botched assassination attempt on General Katumba Wamala.
This was revealed by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gen Paul Lokech on Thursday.
“Gen Katumba Wamala attackers now in custody belong to an ADF Cell. Their leader Shiek Obadia is still on the run believed to be in hiding in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo,” Lokech said.
At the start of last month, four assailants riding on two motorcycles attacked Works and Transport Minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, killing his daughter and driver in the process.
Lokech revealed that in an operation to arrest another suspect, he tried engaging security operatives but was ‘put out of action.’
Early this week, two suspects who were part of the assailants behind the targeted drive-by shooting, appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court, Nakawa.
The two; Ssembuba Husein Ismail and Nyanzi Yusufu Siraji, were charged with two seperate counts of murder and two accounts of attempted murder.
They were remanded to Kitalya Prison till 3.08.2021
