Museveni Supporters Divided As Gen Tumwine Says He’ll Advise President To Prepare Transition

Former Security Minister, Gen Elly Tumwine has ignited debate with thing the ruling Nationala Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

On Wednesday, while handing over office to his successor, Tumwine who is now Presidential Advisor on Security, said he would advise President Yoweri Museveni to prepare transition of power.

“I am happy to be handing over to Maj. Gen @jkmuhwezi, a friend and an old-time comrade .
I promise my resolute commitment to you in executing your official duties at the Ministry,” Tumwine said.

He added, “As take on my new advisory role, I will advise @KagutaMuseveni to prepare for a smooth transition of power for a long-term stability of our country.”

His comments have sparked debate with some questioning why he did not say the same while still minister.

The former security minister was part of the National Resistance Army (NRA) rebel group that brought Museveni to power in 1986.

Tumwine was the NRM Govt’s first Army Commander while Muhwezi was founding Director of the ISO.

Both were historical members of the NRM bush war parliament, the National Resistance Council (NRC).
