Kampala Metropolitan Police conducted an operation on Saturday night with an aim of enforcing Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures.
Saturday night’s operation led to the arrest of over 1000 people.
“The aim was to raid bars that have been working in total disregard of the Ministry of Health guidelines.
A total of 1,100 suspects have been arrested and over 50 motor vehicles have been impounded.
The suspects were arrested from different bars around Kampala Metropolitan Area. We retaliate that bars are not yet opened,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP Deputy Spokesperson said in a statement.
He added, “Police will not hesitate to arrest any suspects found violating stipulated guidelines.”
All suspects arrested will be produced in courts of law on offences of doing a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease.
“We urge members of the public to observe standard operating procedures, like wearing masks in public places and sanitising, to avoid contract Coronavirus or spreading it to others,” Luke added.
The operation follows another, last weekend when over 700people were caged.
