Kenyatta Appoints Koome Kenya’s First Female Chief Justice

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Martha Koome as Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya.

This makes her the first female judge in the country to hold this position.

Her appointment follows the approval by the National Assembly earlier on Wednesday.

Koome, who has worked in the legal profession for about 33 years, was one of the ten applicants who were interviewed to succeed former CJ David Maraga.
