The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of NRM yesterday strengthened its grip on parliamentary appointments by rejecting maneuvers from former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
The Kamuli woman MP had tried to ask CEC to allow her extend MP Hanifa Kawooya’s membership in the Pan African Parliament.
However, the party chairman, President Museveni promptly rejected the move and all members agreed with him.
A panicky Kadaga sought to use CEC endorsement to embolden her supporters that she is the one responsible for their appointment on committees and foreign delegations.
She has been manipulating MPs that she is the one who will allocate them good committees and membership to foreign bodies.
But CEC yesterday proved her wrong by rejecting her proposal on Kawooya.
“Africa will not die. Let’s first solve domestic issues. In any case I will give Hanifa something else this time,” Museveni reportedly told off Kadaga.
The matter collapse there and then.
Kawooya has been quoted as supporting Kadaga with the hope that her stay in Pan African Parliament depended on the woman from Kamuli.
It turns out that it’s CEC which Kadaga has often undermined that decides on party placements in parliament.
Sources say CEC is determined to place MPs depending on their loyalty to the party not Kadaga.
Ministerial appointments are going to follow the same trend.
Ministers working with the rebellious and pompous Kadaga are likely to miss out.
The presence Amama Mbabazi in yesterday’s meeting compounded Kadaga’s woes.
Unlike her who was picked by NRM and elevated into positions of influence , Amama fondly known as JPAM was among those who invested all their youthful energies to build NRM.
