Cranes Star Azira Retires From International Duty As Mass Exodus Rocks National Team

Uganda Cranes midfielder Michael Azira has become the latest footballer to draw the curtains on his time as national team player.

In a letter addressed to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Azira says donning the national colors and playing for the Cranes has been an honor.

His retirement comes two day after Skipper Denis Onyango also called it quits, and a week after midfielder Hassan Wasswa hang his boots.

Azira started playing street football in the US where he had gone to seek greener pastures, and thereafter joined college football in 2008 and 2010 for Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders and Mobile Rams respectively.

His professional career started at Mississippi Brilla in the USL League Two in 2011, he then switched to Charleston Battery FC for the 2012/13 season before joining Seattle Sounders FC in 2014/15.
