Buganda Road Magistrates Court has sentenced Kawempe North MP-elect Muhammad Ssegirinya to Kitalya government prison until April 8, 2021, over inciting violence.
Ssegirinya appeared before Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu on Tuesday and was charged with inciting violence.
The new lawmaker was arrested in downtown Kampala on Monday while protesting the disappearance of some opposition supporters.
Commonly known as ‘Mr Update,’ Ssegirinya has in the recent past been on the spot over his academic papers after a lawsuit was filing challenging his election on the basis that he presented falsified academic documents to be nominated.
The Uganda National Examination board has revealed that they have received several petitions from various people who are requesting for clarification and verification on academic papers of some elected politicians in the recent concluded elections.
According to Jennifer Kalule the Examinations Board spokesperson, among the petitions they received included that of former Kawempe North MP aspirant Sulaiman Kidandala who wrote to them seeking for verification of MP elect Ssegirinya Muhammad’s academic documents.
