Uganda Receives First Batch Of COVID19 Vaccines

The initial batch of 864,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in #Uganda.

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng received the consignment on Friday afternoon accompanied by health ministry officials and World Health Organisation (WHO) representative in Uganda.

“An exciting day for us as #Uganda received the initial batch of 864,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by the Serum Institute of India and shipped via the COVAX facility. Thank you to all who made this possible,” Aceng said.

Health care providers, security personnel, teachers, persons aged 50 years and above and those with underlying health conditions to benefit from phase one of vaccination.

Also present to receive the vaccines were US Ambassador to Uganda and envoys from the European Union.

“I urge all people who have been identified for the initial and subsequent vaccination of the #COVID19 to turn up and take this life-saving vaccine. By protecting ourselves we also protect our loved ones,” WHO’s Yonas Tegegn WOLDEMARIAM said.
