Uganda’s Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a plea by National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine to amend his petition challenging the results of the January 14 presidential poll.
In the amendment application which was heard on Tuesday by the Supreme Court, Kyagulanyi argued that as an incumbent, Museveni was ineligible to take part in the January 14th, presidential election.
In his amendment, Kyagulanyi stated that contrary to Articles 102 (2) (b) and 219 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as amended and S. 4 (b) of the Presidential Elections Act as amended, Museveni was not qualified for election as president while in the office of head of state, head of government, commander in chief and chairperson of the National Security Council.
However, the Supreme Court threw out the plea to amend the petition.
The panel of nine Justices led by Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo.
