Vacate Bobi Wine Premises — Court Orders Security Forces

1 Mins read

The High Court sitting in Kampala today has issued an order directing police and the military to vacate Hon Robert Kyagulanyi’s premises in Magere.

Court adds that the indefinite confinement of Kyagulanyi at his home is unlawful and unconstitutional.

Bobi Wine has been detained at his home from 14th January 2021.

Last week, the Uganda police force revealed that they will continue with the preventive arrest until the court rules on the issue.

“We continue to maintain our preventive action and cover in the area, as we await the outcome of the writ of Habeas Corpus, before the High Court in Kampala,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson on January 21, 2020.

It should be noted that National Resistance Movement (NRM) party presidential candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni brushed off ten other candidates to extend his presidency to 40 years after Electoral Commission (EC) chairman Simon Byabakama credited him 5,851,037 votes, representing 58.64% of the 9,978,093 valid votes.

Final results from the EC indicated that closest opposition challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine had a cumulative tally of 3,475,298 votes (34.83).

Bobi Wine rejected the results saying that the election was rigged though he didn’t explain how the rigging was conducted.
