Alliance for National Transformation presidential candidate Rtd Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has called off his campaigns until arrested opposition presidential candidates are released.
National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi and Forum For Democratic Change president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi have been arrested by Police.
Kyagulanyi was arrested from Luuka District while Amuriat was arrested from Gulu.
The two are still in custody.
“We have decided to pause our presidential campaign activities until our colleagues, @HEBobiwine and @PatrickAmuriat are released and their freedom to campaign guaranteed. We call upon government to recognise that this isn’t business as usual,” Muntu Tweeted.
Earlier Muntu had warned that the impunity of security operatives against opposition politicians is driving the country towards a break point.
“The impunity with which security operatives are operating in the continued harassment and now arrest of @HEBobiwine is leading this country closer towards a breaking point. We join @NUP_Ug and all fair-minded Ugandans in calling upon his immediate release. #CountryBeforeSelf,”
