Mao Blames Security Agencies Of Frustrating His Manifesto Launch In Kasese

Democratic Party president Nobert Mao has accused security agencies for frustrating the launch of his 2021 presidential campaign in Kasese District.

On Wednesday, DP presidential candidate Norbert Mao was expected to launch his presidential campaign in Kasese but he did not show up.

“We are assuming the EC is in charge of the elections, but the security apparatus has ousted the jurisdiction of the EC. The police is doing this not because they want to contain COVID-19, but because they want to keep the regime in power,” said Mao.

Mao promised to deliver justice to the people of Kasese district who lost their relatives during the military attack on the Rwenzururu kingdom in December 2016.

He said his campaign will focus on reconciliation and nation building, the reason he has chosen to start with Kasese, given the 2016 attack on the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu kingdom.

Mao submitted his signatures two days to nomination day despite several warnings from the commission.

After the nominations, the EC again indicated that the two-time presidential candidate was among the last people to submit his program for harmonization.

Some DP supporters say this could explain Mao’s delayed launch of campaigns ahead of voting on January 14.
