National Unity Platform (NUP) President and flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was arrested shortly after his nomination.

Bobi Wine’s car window was broken before he was pulled out and bundled into a waiting black police van.

Earlier, the Electoral Commission had cleared him to compete in 2021 presidential elections after filling the nomination requirements.

After going through his documents for verification and reading him the electoral rules, Electoral Commission Chairman Simon Byabakama declared Bobi Wine a candidate for the forthcoming elections.

“I Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon being the returning officer for the nomination Presidential candidates, hereby declare that Robert Kyagulanyi, a duly nominated candidate, in respect of the Presidential elections 2021,” he said.

In his maiden speech, Bobi Wine warned the incumbent president and the electoral commission not to play with the electoral results.

As he left the Kyambogo grounds for the NUP offices where he was meant to release the party manifesto, he was stopped, and whisked away to his home in Magere where a scuffle still ensures with security forces.

The Exact reason of his temporary arrest was still not yet know by press time.
