This Is The Time To Deliver Change To Ugandans — Gen Tumukunde

1 Mins read

Presidential aspirant and former Security Minister, Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, has said this is the time to deliver change to Ugandans amidst all the changes.

Speaking to the media this morning, Tumukunde said despite of the fact that the forthcoming election is going to be the most difficult election anyone can go through, change must be delivered to Ugandans.

“This is the time the people don’t feel they are campaigning in an adequate and proper way, however, it’s the time we must deliver change to Ugandans and I therefore call upon Ugandans that despite what we are going through, choose the best leader in the forthcoming election,” he said.

He said Ugandans should not feel inferior that they don’t have the capacity of changing the leadership of this country.

“Congo has done it, Burundi did it, Kenya did it sometimes back, so I think regardless of the total absence of freedom, we still have hope that Ugandans can do what they can,” he said.

He said some of the guidelines put in place by Electoral Commission are aimed at frustrating their activities more so denying them access to the public which won’t be accepted.

Tumukunde said that if presidential candidates are not allowed to move, it means that it would be an election that has got a lot of loopholes.

“Everything is tightened but anyone can tell that behind all these there is an intention to deny us access to the public however, with all these complications, it’s the most important election Uganda has ever had compared to the 1981,” said Tumukunde.

He said COVID-19 has given whoever has authority to oppress the opposition but all that will be over when the country finally gets a new leader come 2021.

On the issue of fronting the joint candidate ahead of the polls, Tumukunde said the discussion is still ongoing and some important things have been agreed upon.

“We are going to tell Ugandans what is going on and I am one of the biggest architects of this process. There is still a possibility of fronting a joint candidate. We don’t want tell Ugandans incomplete things,” he said.

He urged the EC to follow rules and ensure that the forthcoming coming election is free and fair.

Tumukunde was however told by Electoral commission that his papers are lacking and he should first rectify them before he is duly nominated.
