Museveni Address Rescheduled To Sunday

The Presidential Address on COVID-19 has been postponed to Sunday, September 20, 8pm according to Senior Presidential Press Secretary, Don Wanyama.

Wanyama through his Twitter said: “Good people, the Presidential Address on COVID-19 has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 20th, at 8pm. It will be live on TVs and radios. Asante,” Mr. Wanyama tweeted.

This week, the President summoned a special cabinet meeting to determine the future of learners and other sectors such as bars, sports and music events.

Last week, there were reports that schools, especially candidate classes are set to reopen for the second term that will end in mid-December, and that third term was to begin in January or February, whereas UNEB exams are to be written in March or April 2021.

However, Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, Judith Nabakooba urged the public to ignore these kinds of reports that are speculating about the reopening of academic institutions.

Nabakooba said that only President Yoweri Museveni has the mandate to reopen schools and all other institutions that were closed as a measure to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.

“The mandate to guide the nation on the reopening of schools and other institutions is with His Excellency the President of Uganda,”

“When it comes to the national COVID-19 response, I want to call upon Ugandans to be calm and ignore some of the speculative messages regarding the reopening of public institutions.”

The Ministry of Education was the first to dismiss the reports as being untrue and asked parents to disregard the same.

In total, Uganda’s health ministry has to-date declared 5,594 Coronavirus cases, of whom over 61 have died and 2,544 have recovered.
