1 Mins read

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces has warned Ugandans to adhere to health guidelines because the army will not hesitate to return the Local Defence Unit on the streets to enforce them.

This was revealed by the UPDF spokesperson, Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso while addressing journalists yesterday at Uganda Media Centre.

She said that the increase in community transmission is die to the laxity in adhering to Standard Operating procedures set by the ministry of health.

“When you move into the public, you find that most people have forgotten the SOPs. They have completely forgotten and you think they have gone back to normal,” she said before adding that;

“If it continues like this, we shall have no option but to bring back the LDUs to do the enforcement.”

“Of course, we have trained them; they have been on training of recent and we have instructed them on how to handle civil policing.”

It should be noted that after beating and killing innocent citizens as they tried to enforce the COVID-19 lockdown, President Museveni withdrew all the LDUs from enforcement and sent them on a refresher course on how to handle civilians.
