On Wednesday, a number of political figures made their way to the head offices of the NRM to pick nomination forms as they prepare to contest for some of the top positions in the ruling party.
Among them was the State Minister for Lands Persis Namuganza who picked nomination forms to challenge Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga as the second National Vice Chairperson of the Ruling National Resistance Movement.
Namuganza told reporters that she intends to drive the youth agenda and mobilize for the party if elected to the position.
“I am coming for the second National Vice chairperson of NRM and I want to raise the voice of young people in our party because I feel it’s time now to fight for them,”she said.
She noted that if elected she will ensure that the party grooms young capable people who will be able to champion the agenda of the party when the elders retire.
She said she wants to make the youth to feel confident of the party.
This will be a major showdown as the two have a history of rivalry stemming from disagreements over who should hold power in Busoga Kingdom.
The rift between the two became public in 2018 when Kadaga flew in a chopper to take part in the enthronement ceremony of a new chief for
Bukono, Christopher Mutyaba something that Namuganza castigated as interfering in the affairs of Bukono.
She also accused her of installing an illegitimate chief along with Ministers who hail outside the Chiefdom.
According to Namuganza, before passing, the former chief of the area, had named another heir to the throne. And the public spat kicked off from here.
