Woman MP Kiryandongo District Tests Positive for COVID-19

A woman Member of Parliament for Kiryandongo district, Kahunde Hellen is reported to have tested positive for the coronavirus.

It is said that Kahunde contracted the virus after interacting closely with a family member who recently returned from abroad at one of the quarantine centres.

The legislator is currently undertaking treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

“Hon Kahunde felt unwell before volunteering to take a test at Mulago where she is currently being admitted, “a source told Ug Mirror today. 

Because of this, legislators will starting tomorrow be tested for the virus, which has so far been confirmed in 1043 people in the country.

The Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga said the exercise of testing  is to be conducted by the Ministry of Health- starting on Thursday, 16 July 2020.

Hon. Kahunde becomes the first lawmaker to test positive for the virus.

The development comes hot on the heels of the prime minister Ruhukana Rugunda going into self-isolation after his contact contracted the disease that set in motion a nationwide lockdown.
